What is the New Zealand Postcode Finder?
This is a free tool for finding New Zealand postcodes. Search a suburb or town to get its 4-digit postcode, or enter a postcode to see which suburbs use it. It covers all 16 regions, from Northland to Southland, with about 1,700 postcodes in total.
It helps with online shopping, courier and parcel delivery, visa and immigration forms, job and school applications, and any website that asks for a New Zealand address.

- Suburb to postcode: choose “Suburb → Postcode”, type a suburb or town such as Herne Bay, Queenstown or Hamilton, and optionally narrow it with the region menu.
- Postcode to suburbs: choose “Postcode → Suburbs” and type a full postcode like 1010, or the first digits like 60 to list every match.

How New Zealand postcodes work
A New Zealand postcode has four digits with no hyphen or letters, for example 1010 for central Auckland. Postcodes are managed by NZ Post and are used to sort mail.
Reading the digits
The first digit points to a broad area, running roughly from north to south: 0 is Northland and north Auckland, 1 and 2 are Auckland, 3 is Waikato and the Bay of Plenty, 4 is Manawatu, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki and Gisborne, 5 and 6 are the Wellington region (6 for Wellington city), 7 is Nelson, Tasman, Marlborough, the West Coast and north Canterbury, 8 is Canterbury, and 9 is Otago and Southland. Codes beginning with 0 keep their leading zero, for example 0600.
Suburbs and postcodes
A postcode can cover several suburbs, and a large suburb can have more than one postcode. PO Box and rural delivery addresses can have a different postcode from the street address in the same place.
Writing a New Zealand address
The usual order is street number and name, the suburb, then the city or town with the postcode, for example: 12 Example Street, Herne Bay, Auckland 1011.

New Zealand postcode FAQ
How many digits is a New Zealand postcode?
Four digits with no hyphen or letters, for example 1010. Codes that start with 0 keep the zero, such as 0600.
How do I find a postcode in New Zealand?
Type the suburb or town into the finder. Choose a region to narrow the list if several places share a name.
Does the first digit show the region?
Broadly yes. 0 to 2 are Northland and Auckland, 3 is Waikato and the Bay of Plenty, 4 to 6 cover the lower North Island and Wellington, 7 is the top of the South Island and the West Coast, 8 is Canterbury and 9 is Otago and Southland.
Can one suburb have more than one postcode?
Yes. Larger suburbs can be split across postcodes, and one postcode can cover several suburbs. PO Box and rural delivery addresses may also use a different postcode from the street address.
Does it include every New Zealand postcode?
It has about 1,700 postcodes, covering suburbs and towns in all 16 regions. A few places are listed without a region, and PO Box and rural delivery postcodes may be missing, so confirm with NZ Post when it matters.
